NOVEMBER OVERVIEW
MOON PHASES: November begins (for a few hours) and ends with the moon in the dark phase. It moves from dark to light with the new moon arriving at 8:47 a.m. EDT on Nov. 1 and then back to the dark phase with the full/dark moon at 4:28 p.m. EST on Nov. 15 where it remains until the new moon at 1:21 a.m. Dec. 1
When the light moon is in force, plant above-ground producers and it’s below-ground producers when the dark moon rules.
Don’t plant when either of the killing signs, Aries and Leo, is in force or veggies when the flowering signs Virgo and Libra rule since they are bloom days.
Planting when the fertile signs rule is a viable alternative to the VERY fertile signs, which are Scorpio, Pisces, Taurus, and Cancer. The fertile ones – just a little below VERY fertile – are Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Aquarius.
If you can only utilize one aspect of the system for planting, I would suggest going with the moon phases but still completely avoid the killing signs Aries and Leo and the flowering signs Virgo and Libra for anything but flowers.
THE SIGNS: Check to see if the moon is in the light or dark phase (information above and on any calendar) before planting anywhere, or other moon-related activities. November begins with a VERY fertile sign ruling, so that’s where we’ll start.
VERY FERTILE DAYS: Scorpio/secrets, Nov. 1-2, 27-29; Pisces/feet, Nov. 9-11; Taurus/neck, Nov. 14-15; and Cancer/breast, Nov. 18-19. There are 12 days in November ruled by the VERY fertile signs. Again, this month, I hope next May and June will have that kind of configuration!
FERTILE DAYS: Sagittarius/thighs, Nov. 3-4, 30; Capricorn/knees, Nov. 5-6; and Aquarius/legs, Nov. 7-8. There are six days in November ruled by these three signs, all with the light moon in force. When added to the 12 days ruled by the VERY fertile signs, we have 18 great planting days pretty evenly split between the dark and light moon. The problem is: It’s November and too cold for much planting!
KILLING DAYS: No planting, transplanting, seeding, re-potting or dealing with things you want to thrive should occur on these days. Reserve them for anything but planting anywhere. No planting! Here’s when they rule: Aries/head, Nov. 12-13; and Leo/heart, Nov. 20-21. Again, this month there are only four days ruled by the killing signs.
BEAN/PEA DAYS: Gemini (the arms), the bean/pea sign, rules Nov. 16-17. But we can’t be planting either now.
FLOWERING DAYS: Nov. 22-24, Virgo/bowels; and Nov. 25-26, Libra/reins. There are five days ruled by the two flowering signs. No veggies on flowering days.
MAKING CHANGES: After two or three months of no perfect days for making changes, the worm, as they say, is beginning to turn in November with one perfect day – Nov. 30. That’s the last day the dark moon is in force and the sign is in Sagittarius, the thighs. That sign is one that’s going out of the body beyond anything that functions.
Things will get better next month with four perfect days – Dec. 27-30. The moon will be in the dark phase then with Sagittarius and Capricorn ruling, two days each. That will be perfect timing to get a jump on New Year’s resolutions!
In addition to that one perfect day, like last month the closest thing I would suggest are days when the signs are going out of the body beyond anything that functions – half the equation – but the moon is still in the light phase moving toward the dark. These days are Nov. 3-10, Sagittarius/thighs through Pisces/feet with the dark moon arriving on the 15th.
Changes might include starting a diet or exercise program, stopping smoking or other unhealthy habits, weaning small children or animals, scheduling elective surgery or dental work – anything requiring us to do something differently from the way we are doing it now.
POURING GRAVEL: If you have gravel to pour on a drive or road on your farm, do that when the light moon rules, which is Nov. 1 through most of Nov. 15, when it moves to the dark phase late in the afternoon.
